EVENT INFORMATION
The Green Knight: Into the Arthur-Verse with Prof. Matthew Gabriele
Special Event
Join us following Monday's matinee for a special lecture from Prof. Matthew Gabriele. The lecture starts at approximately 12:15PM.

Based on a 14th-century poem, The Green Knight tells a complicated story about “chivalry” and masculinity set in the medieval world. But the medieval world of King Arthur was itself quite complicated, with no 1 single tradition dominating. Instead, much like current superhero movies, there were overlapping and interlocking tales, told by many scribes over the course of a long period of time. Prof. Matthew Gabriele, medieval historian and chair of the Dept. of Religion & Culture at VT, will talk about the medieval roots of the film and how the it embraces those multiple voices, even as it adds its own.
