My Life Story

High School/Adult Classes
(Grade 9 and up)
Tuesdays, June 4 – 25
5:30pm – 7:00pm
$175

Friends are always saying to you, “You should write that down! You could write a book!”. And you think, “Yes. I could. But how? How would I even start?” Here’s how—with this workshop. Lucinda McDermott has helped people tell their stories and other’s stories. As an award-winning playwright, she understands what it takes to tell a compelling story whether it’s bound to live between the covers of a book or on stage. More importantly, she has all kinds of fun and provoking exercises to get you over that hump of beginning. Whether it’s a moment in time, or the full arc of your life’s journey, this course will get you started. This workshop will consist of writing in class and in between class, sharing with one another, learning to give and receive responsible feedback, and presenting selections for an invited audience.

Monologue and Scene Work using Breath Awareness

High School/Adults
(Grade 9 and up)
Wednesdays, June 5-26
5:30pm – 7:00pm
$200

This course is for the actor who wants to work on material either by themselves (monologues) or with another (scene work). Breath Awareness Technique is an acting approach that makes the work accessible at any level of experience. It is based on Lucinda McDermott’s extensive training with actor Michael Moriarty in New York and informed by her training at HB Studios in Method based techniques, other acting techniques infused with her own experiences. This technique does not negate other performance approaches, but rather provides a structure and base for the actor to develop their own technique by gaining control over their physical and vocal instrument while at the same time allowing for an organic connection to the text.

In this workshop we will use breath awareness exercises, movement, improv, and texts of your choosing. It is expected that you will work on material between classes. This course will conclude with a presentation of monologues and scenes for an invited audience.
